Apollo TV App Not Installing on Android? How to Fix Every Common Error

Apollo Group TV Editorial Team 9 min read

Quick answer

When the Apollo TV app won't install on Android, it's usually one of a few blocks: a browser warning on the download, the missing permission to install unknown apps, Google Play Protect, low storage, or an older copy from another source. Each has a quick fix. Only install the official file from our Android phone and tablet guide.

Apollo TV App Not Installing on Android? How to Fix Every Common Error, a Troubleshooting guide from the Apollo Group TV blog

Installing the Apollo TV app on an Android phone or tablet usually takes a minute: download the file, tap it, tap Install. But Android is cautious about apps that don't come from Google Play, and depending on your phone's brand and Android version, it can stop you at several points along the way with messages that aren't always clear.

Each of those messages is covered below, in the order you'll probably meet them, with what it means and how to get past it safely. If you haven't started yet, the step-by-step installation is in our Android phone and tablet guide; come back here if something goes wrong.

Before you start: get the official file

Every fix below assumes you're installing the official app. Download it only from the link in our Android phone and tablet guide or from your dashboard. Files from other websites, video descriptions or messaging groups can be modified or out of date, and they cause many of the errors in this guide.

If you've downloaded the app before from somewhere else, delete that file from your Downloads folder so you don't open the wrong one by mistake.

Problem 1: The browser blocks the download

When you tap the download link, Chrome and other browsers may warn that "this type of file can harm your device".

What it means

Browsers show this for every app file downloaded from outside Google Play. It's a general warning, not a sign that this particular file is harmful.

What to do

If you started the download from our official link, choose Download anyway (or the equivalent in your browser). The file is saved to your Downloads folder.

Problem 2: "For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source"

What it means

Android requires you to allow each app that installs other apps. The app doing the installing is usually your browser or your file manager, so you're giving permission to that specific app, not to everything.

What to do

  1. Tap Settings on the message, if it offers it.
  2. Turn on Allow from this source for your browser or file manager.
  3. Go back and tap Install.

If the message doesn't offer a shortcut, go to Settings > Apps > Special app access > Install unknown apps, choose the app you're installing from, and turn it on. Menu names vary by brand; searching Settings for "unknown apps" usually finds it.

After installing, you can turn this permission off again for your browser if you prefer.

Problem 3: Samsung's Auto Blocker stops the installation

What it means

Recent Samsung phones include a security feature called Auto Blocker that blocks apps from sources other than official app stores. When it's on, installation fails even if you've allowed unknown apps.

What to do

  1. Go to Settings > Security and privacy > Auto Blocker.
  2. Turn it off temporarily.
  3. Install the Apollo TV app.
  4. Turn Auto Blocker back on afterwards if you'd like.

Problem 4: Play Protect warns about the app

What it means

Google Play Protect scans apps on your phone, including ones installed from outside Google Play. For apps it doesn't recognize from the Play Store, it may show a warning, offer to scan the app, or block the installation.

What to do

Read the message carefully. If you downloaded the file from our official link, look for an option such as More details and then Install anyway. Play Protect may also ask whether to send the app for scanning; either choice is fine.

Don't turn Play Protect off entirely. It protects you from genuinely harmful apps, and you can install the Apollo TV app with it on. If you're unsure whether the file you have is genuine, delete it, download it again from our guide, and contact support before installing.

Problem 5: "App not installed"

This is the most common error, and also the vaguest. Android shows it for several different reasons.

Cause 1: An older copy from a different source

If an Apollo TV app is already on your phone, and it came from somewhere other than our website, Android won't let the official version replace it. Apps are signed by their developer, and Android only allows an update from the same signature.

Fix: uninstall the existing app (Settings > Apps > Apollo Group TV > Uninstall), then install the official file. You'll need to sign in again, so keep My Account open for your login details.

Cause 2: Not enough storage

Android needs free space to unpack the app alongside the file.

Fix: delete files and apps you don't need, then try again. The downloaded installer itself can be deleted after a successful installation.

Cause 3: A broken download

An interrupted download produces a file that looks complete but isn't.

Fix: delete the file from Downloads and download it again, ideally on a steady Wi-Fi connection.

Problem 6: "There was a problem parsing the package"

What it means

Android couldn't read the file. The usual reasons are:

  • The download didn't finish. The file is incomplete.
  • The file was renamed or changed by another app.
  • Your Android version is too old for this version of the app.

What to do

  1. Delete the file and download it again from the official link.
  2. Open it directly from the download notification or your Downloads folder, rather than through a third-party file app.
  3. Check your Android version under Settings > About phone > Software information (or similar). If your phone runs a very old version, contact our support team to confirm whether it's supported.

Problem 7: The app installs but won't open or crashes

What to do

  • Restart the phone once.
  • Clear the app's cache: Settings > Apps > Apollo Group TV > Storage > Clear cache.
  • Clear its data if clearing the cache doesn't help. This resets the app, so sign in again afterwards.
  • Reinstall from the official link.

If it still crashes, contact support with your phone model, Android version and app version.

Problem 8: The installation option is missing or greyed out

Work or school phones

Phones managed by an employer or school often have a policy that blocks installing apps from outside approved stores. The option to allow unknown apps may be missing or greyed out. There's no safe way around a management policy, and you shouldn't try. Install the app on a personal device instead.

Parental controls

Family-management settings, such as Google Family Link, can block app installs on a child's account or require a parent's approval. Approve the installation from the parent's account, or install on another device.

Secure folders and second profiles

If you use a work profile, a secure folder or a second user on the phone, the app installs only in the profile you're using. Make sure you're in the right one, and that the browser you downloaded with belongs to that same profile.

Problem 9: The app installed, but sign-in fails

That's not an installation problem, but it often happens right after one.

  • Use the login details from My Account, not your website email and password, if the app asks for your IPTV login.
  • Copy them with the copy buttons to avoid typos.
  • Check that your subscription is active in My Account.

Our guide to Xtream codes login details explains login errors in more depth, and our troubleshooting article Is Apollo TV down? helps you tell an account problem from anything else.

Freeing up space quickly on a phone

If storage is the problem, these usually free enough space in a minute or two:

  • Delete old downloads. Open the Downloads folder (or Files app) and remove installers and files you no longer need, including old copies of app files.
  • Clear large app caches. Settings > Apps, sort by size if your phone allows, and clear the cache of large apps such as social media and browsers.
  • Remove offline videos saved in other apps.
  • Uninstall apps you haven't opened in months.

Most phones also have a storage cleaning tool under Settings > Storage (or Device care on Samsung) that suggests what to remove.

Tablets

Android tablets install the app exactly like phones. The same permissions and fixes apply. On a tablet shared by the family, check you're signed in to the right user profile, and that parental controls aren't blocking installs.

Android TV boxes and Google TV devices

TV devices are installed differently, with the Downloader app rather than a browser. The permissions and errors are similar but appear in different menus. See our article on the Apollo TV Downloader code and, for Google TV specifically, setting up Apollo Group TV on Google TV.

Example scenario: two errors, one after the other

*An illustrative scenario based on common support questions, not a specific customer's account.*

In this scenario, a customer with a recent Samsung phone tapped the downloaded file and nothing happened. Auto Blocker was on. After turning it off, the installation started, but ended with "App not installed". It turned out an old copy of the app, installed months earlier from a link in a video, was still on the phone. Uninstalling it and installing the official file worked on the next try. The customer then turned Auto Blocker back on.

Two different problems produced two different messages, and each had a simple fix. Taking them one at a time, in order, is the quickest route.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my phone say "App not installed"?

Most often because an older copy of the app from a different source is already installed, the phone is low on storage, or the download was incomplete. Uninstall any old copy, free up space and download again from the official link.

Is it safe to install an app outside Google Play?

It's as safe as the source. Install apps only from the developer's official website. Keep Play Protect on, and be wary of files shared through messages or videos.

How do I allow unknown apps on Android?

Go to Settings > Apps > Special app access > Install unknown apps, choose the browser or file manager you're installing from, and turn it on. Menu names vary by brand.

What Android version do I need for Apollo TV?

Most current Android phones are fine. If your phone runs a very old Android version and you see parse errors, contact support to check compatibility.

Do I need to turn off Play Protect?

No. You can install the official Apollo TV app with Play Protect on. If it warns you, read the message and choose to install anyway only for the file from our website.

Should I keep the downloaded file after installing?

No. Once the app is installed and opens correctly, delete the file from your Downloads folder. It frees up space, and it stops you accidentally installing an old copy later when a newer version is available.

Why does the installation work on my tablet but not my phone?

The two devices may have different settings: a different Android version, Samsung's Auto Blocker on one but not the other, a work profile, or less free storage. Compare them using the problems in this guide, one at a time.

Can I install the app from Google Play instead?

The Apollo TV app is installed from our official download rather than Google Play. Use the link in our Android guide.

Conclusion

When the Apollo TV app won't install on Android, the message tells you what to do: allow your browser as an install source, turn off Samsung's Auto Blocker temporarily, approve a Play Protect warning for the official file, remove an older copy, free up space, or download again. Take the messages one at a time and most installations succeed within a few minutes.
