Is Apollo TV Down? How to Tell in Two Minutes, and What to Do Next

Apollo Group TV Editorial Team 9 min read

Quick answer

To tell whether Apollo TV is down, check whether other apps work on the same device, whether channels fail on every device, and whether your subscription is active in My Account. Most problems are at home: Wi-Fi, an expired pack, an outdated app or a full device. If nothing plays anywhere and everything else checks out, contact support.

Is Apollo TV Down? How to Tell in Two Minutes, and What to Do Next, a Troubleshooting guide from the Apollo Group TV blog

The channel won't load, the app spins forever, or you get a "connection failed" message just as the match starts. The first question everyone asks is whether the service is down or whether something at home is wrong. Usually it's the second, and home problems are the ones you can fix yourself in a few minutes.

Work through the checks below in order. Each one rules out one cause, and by the end you'll either be watching again or know exactly what to tell our support team.

Apollo Group TV doesn't run a public status page at the moment, so nothing on this page shows live service status. What it does is help you work out where a problem is, which is faster than waiting to find out whether anyone else is affected.

Quick check: is it the service or your setup?

If you only have a minute, do these three things:

  1. Open another app on the same device, such as YouTube. If it doesn't load either, your internet connection is the problem, not Apollo TV.
  2. Try a different channel. If other channels play, the issue is that one channel, not the whole service.
  3. Try another device. If Apollo TV works on your phone but not your TV, the problem is the TV's device or app.

If all three point at Apollo TV itself (other apps work, no channels play, and no device works), read on to Step 3 and then report it. Otherwise, the sections below take you straight to the fix.

Step 1: Test your internet and another app

Most "Apollo TV is down" moments are actually internet problems. Live TV is sensitive to dips that other apps hide, because live streams can only buffer a few seconds ahead.

What to check

  • Does any other app work? Open a video app or a web page on the same device.
  • Is the router working? Look at the router's lights. A red or flashing light often means the line is down.
  • Is it the evening rush? If the problem appears at the same time every night, your connection may be congested.

What to do

  • Restart the router: unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and wait two minutes.
  • Restart the streaming device. On Fire TV, hold Select and Play/Pause together for about five seconds.
  • If your TV is on Wi-Fi far from the router, try moving closer or using a cable. Our comparison of Ethernet and Wi-Fi on a Firestick explains why this helps live TV in particular.

If other apps also fail after the router restart, contact your internet provider. Our guide to the internet speed you need for IPTV explains how to test your connection properly.

Step 2: Check your subscription in My Account

When a subscription ends, channels stop loading. It can look exactly like an outage.

  1. Sign in to the Apollo Group TV website.
  2. Open My Account.
  3. Check Subscription Status and Expiration Date.

What you might see

  • Active, with a future date: your subscription is fine. Move on to Step 3.
  • Expired: your access has ended. Choose a pack in Plans & Billing to continue.
  • Pending Review: your payment is being checked or your account is being activated. Your login details appear once it's active.
  • Cancelled: contact support if you weren't expecting this.

Also check that the login details in your app match the ones in My Account. If your details were reset or renewed recently, an app still using the old ones will fail to connect.

Step 3: Try a second device or VLC

This step tells you whether the problem is your streaming device or the streams themselves.

Use another device you already have

If Apollo TV works on your phone or laptop but not on your TV, the TV's device or app is the problem. Skip ahead to "Fixing a device problem" below.

Test the streams in VLC

VLC is a free media player that can open your playlist directly. If you have a laptop:

  1. Install VLC from the official site.
  2. Copy your M3U URL from My Account.
  3. In VLC, choose Media > Open Network Stream, paste the URL and press Play.

If channels play in VLC, the service is working and your usual device or app needs attention. If VLC can't load the playlist either, and your internet works, report it. Our guide to using an M3U URL in VLC walks through this on every platform.

Test from outside your home network

A quick way to separate a home network problem from everything else is to take your home network out of the picture.

  1. On your phone, turn Wi-Fi off so it uses mobile data.
  2. Open the Apollo TV app, or a player signed in with your login, and try a channel.

If it plays on mobile data but not on your home Wi-Fi, the problem is your home connection or router, not the service. Restart the router, and if it keeps happening, contact your internet provider. If it fails on mobile data too, and other apps work, move on to reporting it.

Keep an eye on your mobile data allowance while testing; a few minutes of video is fine, but live TV uses data quickly.

When it only happens at certain times

Problems that appear at the same time every day are a clue in themselves.

  • Every evening: households and internet providers are busiest between roughly 7 and 11 pm. If buffering starts then, congestion in your home or on your provider's network is likely. Reduce other heavy use at those times, or improve your connection to the TV.
  • During big live events: popular live broadcasts put extra demand on every part of the chain. A steady, wired connection gives you the most margin.
  • After the device has been on for days: streaming sticks benefit from a restart. If problems build up over the week and disappear after a restart, make a weekly restart a habit.
  • Right after an app or system update: clear the app's cache, and restart the device once.

Fixing a device problem

If other devices work and only one doesn't, try these in order.

Clear the app's cache

On Fire TV: Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Apollo TV > Clear cache. Cache can become outdated or corrupted, especially after an update. Our Firestick cache guide covers this in detail.

Free up storage

A device that's almost full struggles to run apps. Delete old installer files and apps you don't use.

Update the app

An old version can stop working with the service. See how to update Apollo TV on a Firestick, or our guide to updating Apollo Group TV on other devices.

Reinstall

If nothing else works, uninstall the app and install it again using the setup guide for your device. Sign in with the details from My Account.

One channel down vs everything down

These are different problems with different fixes.

When only one channel doesn't work

A single channel can fail for reasons on the broadcaster's side, such as a temporary problem with its source or a scheduled change. Your setup is fine if other channels play.

  • Try the channel again in a few minutes.
  • If it still fails, report it with the channel name and the time you tried.

When several channels in one category fail

This can point to a wider issue with that group of channels. Report it with two or three example channel names.

When nothing plays at all

If no channel plays on any device, your subscription is active and your internet works, it's time to contact us.

Error messages and what they usually mean

The "maximum connections" message deserves a special mention. It doesn't mean the service is down. It means your login is already playing on as many devices as your subscription allows. Our article on IPTV connection limits explains how streams are counted and how to free one up.

How to report a problem so it's fixed faster

If you've worked through the steps and still can't watch, open a ticket from your dashboard through support, or use our contact page if you can't sign in. Include:

  • What's happening: for example, "No channels load on any device" or "One channel won't play".
  • When it started, and whether it happens all the time or at certain times.
  • Which device and app you're using.
  • What you've already tried from this guide.
  • Channel names, if it's specific channels.
  • The exact error message, or a photo of the screen.

A ticket with these details can usually be answered in one reply, instead of a back-and-forth asking for each one.

Example scenario: an "outage" that wasn't

*An illustrative scenario based on common support questions, not a specific customer's account.*

In this scenario, a customer reported that Apollo TV was down: the living room TV showed a spinner on every channel. Working through this guide:

  • Other apps on the same Fire TV played fine, so the internet was working.
  • My Account showed an active subscription.
  • Apollo TV played normally on the customer's phone.

So the problem was the Fire TV. Its storage was almost full, and the Apollo TV cache was large. Clearing the cache and deleting two old installer files fixed it immediately. The service had been working the whole time. Five minutes with this checklist saved a day of waiting.

Keep it from happening again

A few habits prevent most of the problems that look like outages:

  • Restart your streaming device once a week to clear its memory.
  • Clear the app's cache monthly, or whenever it feels sluggish.
  • Keep the app and the device's system software up to date.
  • Note your expiry date in My Account so a renewal doesn't catch you out. When it's close, follow our guide on how to renew your subscription.
  • Keep TVs close to the router or wired if live channels buffer in the evening.

The troubleshooting guide in our Help Center covers sign-in and playback problems in more depth.

Frequently asked questions

Is Apollo TV down right now?

We don't publish a live status page at the moment. The quickest way to find out is the three-step check at the top of this page: test another app, another channel and another device. If all three point at the service, contact support.

Why is Apollo TV not working today when it worked yesterday?

The most common reasons are an expired subscription, a router or Wi-Fi problem, a device running out of storage, or login details that changed. Check My Account first, then restart your router and device.

Why does Apollo TV say "connection failed"?

Usually the device can't reach the internet, or a player has the wrong server address. Check that other apps work, then compare the server URL in your player with the one in My Account.

How do I know if my subscription has expired?

Open My Account on the website. It shows your subscription status and expiration date.

Why is only one channel not working?

A single channel can have a temporary problem at its source. If other channels play, your setup is fine. Try again later and report it if it continues.

Will I lose time on my subscription if there's an outage?

If there's a confirmed problem on our side, contact support and we'll look at your account. Our Refund Policy explains how refunds work.

Conclusion

When Apollo TV stops working, it's rarely the whole service. Three quick checks (another app, another channel, another device) tell you whether the problem is your internet, a single channel, your device or something on our side. Most fixes take minutes: restart the router and device, check your subscription in My Account, clear the app's cache, or update the app.

If you've ruled out everything at home, contact our support team with the details listed above, and we'll take it from there.
